The bigger list of chinese scams

It's an expensive lesson Gary, but I think your best bet first is the local police.  When making your complaint try to emphasise that there are many victims, and the dollar amounts involved are significant.   Even taking a print out of this web page might help.

Chris are you aware of a site called ecvv, and these other trade lead companies, i actually ran a search on the company i was planning to do business and it turned out they listed it, and just to be safe i put in about 30 of the websites listed in their search and nothing, so does that mean that ecvv is a credible source for legitimate companies? check out ecvv.com

Submitted by chris on Sat, 2007-08-11 01:49.

Hi

I've come across these B2B sites often, and it's safe to say that many of these scam sites have listed themselves on trade sites.   That's not to say the trade site itself is bad, but consider they are really only a medium for businesses to contact each other and as such you should assume they have no specific knowledge on the website and it's credibility.  Ideally if you are a reseller or retailer you can research the website/company you are looking to buy from and hopefully find other people who have traded with that company.  If it were me I would refuse to pay by Money Order, or Direct bank Transfer, and only Credit Card.   At least that way, if it's a scam and no goods arrive, or they are counterfeit when you assumed they were geniune articles, you have recourse to recover your losses. Unless someone explains otherwise, I see no reason why you couldn't pay by Credit Card.

Am totally against fraudsters regardless of colour or race. But I'll like to point out that been a Nigerian and seeing my country tanished by some selfish assholes does not mean we should all be beaten by one stick. I get business contacts for my family because we're into import and export, I must say that after much research about internet fraud am just wondering if you could trust any chinese website?

There are lots of lazy chinese people who are setting up websites to reap off people but that doesn't mean they're all the same. This also applies to lazy Nigerians and other nationalities defrauding people of their hard earned money. This is unacceptable and should never be condoned. I believe that people who are conned by these people are greedy. Why? If someone wants to make you a millionaire, why don't you ask them to give it to themselves or the charity? I've got tonnes of emails and letters from scammers but I always ignore them. Conned artists never giveup so I never read emails from 'the unknown'. The chinese and the eastern european scam are worse than the Africans so please, let us breath and stop painting us all with one colour.

NOTE: A few people have been caught scamming but claimed they were Nigerians on their emails. When they setup a deal with a fellow scammer in Ghana, they realised that they were actually from Asia and Eastern Europe.

My final word is that we should all follow the simple guidelines of online shopping and security. Also, I hope that when these scammers are caught, they actually rot and perish in jail for putting people through pain. Be wise and never send wired money transfer to strangers anywhere. Peace!

I'd be cautious about this, assuming you can pay by Credit Card then there is less risk of losing your money outright.  However I would suggest if they are legitimate, the goods you'll be buying in this case will not be genuine but counterfeit.  If it were me, I'd not purchase anything at all.

Although I have never bought anything from these scammers, I have been the victim of their unsolicited email crap in my eBay listings. They pretend they are asking a question related to the item, and use a hijacked eBay inactive account that has a one rating.

I would like to make a couple of suggestions to anyone who has been a victim from fruadulent websites. It's not enough to contact the local police (or eBay, etc.). You need to be pro-active and take measures to try and stop the illegal activity.

First, go to the website and note the I.P. address that is hosting the account. Then go to Arin.net, do a search on the I.P. address, and find out who is hosting the account. You will see an email address in the listing on where to report the problem (usually it will say "abuse@thehostingcompany.com". The hosting companies have a policy in place that prevents illegal activities. (Your firewall will list the I.P. address.)

Second, Microsoft also has "terms of service" regarding the Hotmail and MSN email accounts. Report the users to Microsoft immediately.
You can send an email to "abuse@hotmail.com". They have a phone number but I have never tried it (800-386-5550).

Third, you can go to "NetworkSolutions.com", look at the bottom of the homepage for "whois" and find out who the owner is for the website domain name. If the account information if protected by "Domains By Proxy", it will list who the proxy is and contact them. Both the Proxy and the Domain Hosting company have terms that prevent illegal activities.

This may seem like alot of work, but I did all of this on "Ele-Eur.com" just now and it took less than 5 minutes. At some point we have to start fighting back against all this illegal activity. If you just let it go and do nothing, they will continue and grow. And if you think one complaint to the hosting company or Microsoft won't help, you're wrong, and if everyone who has been scammed complains, the evidence will be hard to ignore.

Thank you for your support, and good luck!

My mother always said,trade-world is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are gonna get.Our company,New World Trade Co.,Ltd,founded in 2002,have been devoted to offering the best chocolates for customers from all over the world

[/quote]

Quite right, you never what your going to get...or not going to get....at the very least they're selling counterfeit merchandise, which is my suspicion.   The website was created in 2006, fake information was used to register the website. They use images of NBA players that they'd clearly have no right to do so, and so on.

Yeah, several key points.

Jersey2008

The name makes no sense. I understand Chinese do prefer to use numbers in website addresses as it's easier for them to distinguish between numbers and letters of our alphabet, but Jersey2008 ?

Copyright: 2001-2005 jersey2008.com

Again, makes no sense, especially when we look at the date this website was registered.

Creation Date........ 2007-06-15 11:42:20

No prices, No secure payment methods, the usual Hotmail contact addresses.

Let me ask you this, did you indicate to them you would buy more items if you were satisfied with the one you ordered ? Are you certain the item you purchased is geniune and not counterfeit or just reconditioned to look new ?

Great site Chris, i have been hit so many times by web addresses mostly in your BIG LIST of scamers. That sentence "if its to good to be true" is true, i have been so tempted to buy many times, but just couldn't do it for fear of loosing my hard earned money, i even befriended a Chinese lady on the net and asked if she could check out some of these companies by going to their office addresses, she came back to say they did not exist at these addresses, i even offered to pay for her time but she refused(their not all scamers ). One more thing with the telephone numbers, in China you can have a mobile phone number that has the characteristics of a land (or office) line.
I have since been to China and i could find nothing Cheep, maybe a slight reduction in most electronic goods (around 5% to 10%) and some cheep memory for my camera, but no point in buying anything, for the cost of transport and warranty problems you'd better buy local. I notice you repeat yourself so many times about how to check a scam site, maybe you should write up the "rules" and say READ THIS FIRST, its not hard for people to do themselves. CHEERS

Submitted by chris on Tue, 2007-08-14 04:02.

Nice post Mike.  I especially like the efforts you made to ensure you weren't a victim, I also assume you are a reseller or retailer of some kind.  Or just very very thorough.

Regarding Chinese not all being scammers.  Absolutely, and I hope I've not come across in this manner, as to do would be a disgrace.

The point you make about prices not being that different in China is a great one.   They really aren't, perhaps too often we are told China is the source of all that's cheap, perhaps we imagine small children assembling our Air Jordan shoes.   But, and I don't enjoy saying this, greed is a factor here, and it leads to greater apathy when approaching these sites.   "If it's too good to be true, then it probably is" could not have a better demonstration than these websites, but innately we want to get a bargain, and unfortunately we ignore our own common sense.

I wasn't aware of the ability to have a mobile number that has all the appearances of a land line, that makes things more difficult.  Let's hope there's no reason for me to maintain this list in a few weeks.   But I doubt that.

Lastly, the Guide.   Very much something I intend to do, and in many repsects it will be much easier to complete now that I'm seeing so many comments.  There's no point trying to explain anything if I don't understand who I'm trying to explain it to.

Thanks

Chris

This website is quite different than the others, certainly I wouldn't say it's a scam straight away which I tend to do.

My personal belief is what you are buying is either reconditioned, or counterfeit, maybe not so illegal in Hong Kong or China, but still reason enough to avoid everywhere else.

Also they only accept non-secure payment methods, again Western Union, Bank Transfer, so why set yourself up for potential headaches.

Your welcome to make your purchase, but based on the comments from others being ripped off, or receiving counterfeit items, and given you'll have no recourse to get your money back if you are scammed, why would you ?

The website was created 30th March 2007, and is registered to a Qiang Gao living in the US, Mountain View, California to be exact.  Click here to see a map highlighting said apartment.

Down the bottom of the website www.anpshoes.com you will notice icons for all major Credit Cards.

A good sign.

But, their payment page http://www.anpshoes.com/payment.php makes no mention of Credit Cards.

A bad sign.

All in all, I'd say either scam or counterfeit.

www.gwzmusic.com

Looks like a potential scam site, could be legit.

I told them I might be going to Beijing, they said your welcome to come to our store. (I've now decided to go to Hong Kong.)

But am still interested in buying from them... can someone tell me if they are legit or a scam please???

Submitted by chris on Thu, 2007-08-16 02:47.

Could be legit why ?

No buyer protection, they have used misleading dates, free email addresses.  The fact that they are pretty much identical to 1500 other websites, which many are scamming people.

Submitted by Jozsef Poor (not verified) on Fri, 2007-10-12 20:23.

DO NOT TRADE WITH GWZMUSIC.COM! THEY ARE NOTHING BUT RAW CHINESE SCAMMERS CLAIMING TO BE BASED IN BEJING IN CHINA!! WE ORDERED PHONES FROM THEM OVER £1,000 GBP AND GOT NOTHING. THEY CLAIMED OUR PHONES WERE SENT TO A WRONG ADDRESS AND DEMANDED A FURTHER £200 PAYMENT IN ORDER TO FORWARD GOODS!

IF YOU HAD SIMILAR BAD EXPERIENCE WITH COMPANIES BASED IN CHINA YOU MAY REPORT THEM TO: China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Centre (http://net.china.cn/). ALTERNATIVELY IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE THAT SPEAK CHINESE TO FILL OUT FORMS YOU COULD TRY THIS ALSO: the Ministry of Public Security of the State Council at http://cyberpolice.cn.

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY, DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE ORDERING FROM THEM. THEY ARE NOTHING BUT ROUGH NECK SCAMMERS!!!

gwzmusic.com are a scam company here at BuyDay UK Ltd can confirm!

To all of you thinking of doing any kind of business with www.gwzmusic.com BE WARNED!!

The website is a scam!! We have been defrauded for £1,045.00 GBP after spending this for 5 x Apple iPhones that never arrived. The guy code named Weidong Ren uses several email addresses to carry out fraud! His Moneybooker's email address is gwzmusic@hotmail.com also he uses gwzmusic1@hotmail.com and other cover up emails he uses are: pspsaler@hotmail.com and pspsaler@yahoo.com. After not receiving the phones for 3 weeks he first claimed that the phones were sent to a wrong address to guy in China. He fabricated a story requesting (on this phantom customer's behalf) to send a further £200.00 GBP to forward the phones but told him that we were not prepared to pay extra for their mistakes. After some questioning it turned out that the phones were actually (new story) sent to Italy to a 'man' called Barbara. Huh?! Finally, we were given the option as: 1.) Pay £200.00 GBP or 2.) Forget the phones!!!

We would be interested to hear from anyone technically minded if you can see an option to track this fraudster down!

Thanks, Joe

Submitted by chris on Thu, 2007-08-16 10:54.

Cindy.

Your website sells counterfeit items.

Your website offers customers no payment protection.   When something goes wrong, you just block their MSN.

Right now there are hundreds of sites, just the same as yours, selling more conterfeit junk, or not sending anything at all. And the victims of your criminal acts cannot do anything, they cannot get their money back.

You may feel that you have been wronged, but hundreds of victims all over the world, would say otherwise.  Just read the comments here from all these people who have been robbed.

Who are we to believe, when you tell us you are legitimate. Yet people say they have been robbed.

Cindy, you are hurting people by selling these counterfeit items.   There are people like you, who take our money, and not send us anything.   You hurt us by doing this.

So no Cindy, your website has no reputation to destroy.   You like all these others are the ones damaging your own reputation by selling fake items, and ripping off hard working innocent victims.

'top quality copy goods' means Counterfeit.   And in many parts of the world it's illegal.

ec07.com - Are you sure this is a scam?

Now, I know for a fact that this company is a GOLD supplier on Alibaba - they also have a trusty profile. And have been in business on Alibaba since 2006.

I am going to China shortly, I told them I was interested in visiting their business - they said I am welcome to come.

I doubt true scammers would have a trusty profile on Alibaba + invite me to there store....

Submitted by chris on Thu, 2007-08-16 22:43.

You mean like this person

There are simply too many people losing their money, and too many people receiving counterfeit items under the pretense they are the real thing, for me to say anything else.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 2007-08-16 23:24.

www.oosoon.com are already on your blacklist and for a damn good reason, they are scammers. But I also wanted to share this:
They are also a gold supplier WITH trusty profile on alibaba - but I have confirmed from SEVERAL sources and they are indeed a scammer.

Submitted by Confirm that they are scammers (not verified) on Sun, 2007-09-02 15:45.

I confirm that they are scammers. I'm supposed to have bought a NOKIA mobile phone from them but they sent me a NOKLA instead. www.alibaba.com should remove their trusty profile or even remove them from their site.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 2007-11-04 09:38.

Be in no doubt ... oosoon.com are SCAMMERS, I ordered genuine Nokia and got fakes.. Confirmation emails state: GENUINE with 12 month warranty and fakes turn up at my door, at least I got something. I have been in contact with oosoon, they acknowledge they sell fakes and it is OK to do so, it is also OK to deceive their customers... Refund is not a word in the Chinese dictionary.............BEWARE !!
THEY NEED TO BE STOPPED

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 2007-08-17 00:05.

There is a simple solution to this, divide up this blog into two sections.

Sellers that Sell copy/immotation/fake stuff.

and

Sellers who take your money and dont send anything.

Then people will know what they are buying atleast.

Submitted by chris on Fri, 2007-08-17 00:32.

Simple for whom ?

Whether your selling counterfeit merchandise, or robbing people blind, it's illegal either way.   Also many peope are not knowing they are buying counterfeit items.

It's important readers though understand the prupose of this list, as mentioned in the main text, this is our list of websites we are blocking in SiteHound

www.gwzmusic.com - seem legit... I googled around and couldn't find any sources that say he's a scammer. Sure his website looks cheap and is similar to others. But let's not assume he's a scammer just yet.

My gut feeling says to avoid these sites, and avoid being scammed by dealing locally. But my lack on knowledge on artwork from China, also means it's not something I can really comment on.  It would be great if someone who knew more about these things (and wasn't from China) could comment.

Website registered on 5th May 2007, only accepting Western Union and MoneyGram, yet apparently they have offices in the US.

Also their "accreditation" appears to have been faked, as can be seen here

They will talk to you for weeks make you feel secured, then they take your money and thats the last you hear from them again.
